We are born, we die-it’s a cycle each human individual partakes in. But what about the cycle for humanity as a whole? Whether we began from an amoeba or created from gods, depends on your point of view but whichever way we ended up living on this planet, are we evolving creatures?

What is the next evolutionary step for humans? Humanity strives to live, to move forward, to progress, but what is progression? What is the next stage in our cycle as a human race? Is there anything more to life than just physical progress?

What could that physical progress be? What is it that the majority of the human race wants? The answer is that the majority do not want to leave this mortal coil. They want to live for as long as possible, or even forever. They want to prolong life and avoid death.

Who wants to die? Who wants to give up their life on this planet? It can be kind of scary to think that when we die; we are no more. So, one is driven with a need not to expire!

With our brains we think of ways to escape death, we want to become immortal beings. It is not our mind that causes our death, it is our weak organic bodies that usually bring an end to our cycle of life. It is our organic body that lets us down in our race to be immortal. Some suggest that the next version of humanity is just around the corner. By the end of this decade, our monkey mind could well be living in a robot body.

We have the technology now to help the disadvantaged, those that have a damaged limb or missing limb can have it replaced with an artificial limb; a prosthetic. If we can replace a limb then maybe we can replace the whole body, or maybe parts of the body as they fail us. Imagine that we can replace each organic part as they deteriorate. Imagine of we replaced our limbs, our torso, our head with a metallic substance we would probably no longer need most of our inner organs; our bowls, our stomach and such like because we would no longer need to eat food that was needed to sustain the organic body.

Would we need lungs to breathe? If there is no blood in our system, we would no longer need the heart to pump it around. What about a brain? Could we create a robotic encasement for it to sit in?

But my question about this is that we are surely not just an organic body? We have a mind, which is not a physical thing so it cannot be replaced with a metallic supplement. We have emotions, which again are not a physical thing that can be replaced with some kind of robotic aperture.

This new idea for the next stage in the cycle of life is called many names, cybernetic development, Transhumanism, and the scientific hope that we will one day living in a cyborg designed body that cannot deteriorate like an organic one. I cannot see how it will work. Transhumanism, cybernetic research and such like may be able to replace our organic organs but how does it replace our consciousness?

The scientists are still trying to find a way to upload human consciousness to a digital platform that could then be uploaded to a robotic body-making a human truly cyborg. But the problem is nobody knows what consciousness is. How can they upload something that cannot be seen or felt? The people behind this kind of project seem to think that consciousness is just the brain and its electronic functions, but those that study the Ageless Wisdom know different.

What we are, what makes us is our consciousness and it is not something that can be extracted and put somewhere else. It is unique to our being. Consciousness is everywhere, in everything. Everything is endowed with this special attribute but it cannot be moved from the physical body except at death.

The Transhumanism movements state that it is “The intellectual and cultural movement that affirms the possibility and desirability of fundamentally improving the human condition through applied reason, especially by developing and making widely available technologies to eliminate aging and to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities.”[1]

What the transhumanism idea is for uploading consciousness is not yet available, they are still developing that idea. But for those who follow a spiritual path it begs the question is this right? Is this the next stage for human evolution; to become a cyborg?

Rudolf Steiner warns us against it. “The forging together of human nature and that of machines will be a great, significant problem for the remainder of Earth existence.” [2]

Steiner in his Manifesto for Human Thinking goes on to warn us that this kind of development is from the dark Luciferic and Ahrimanic forces, from the Underworld. It is the type of technology that caused the downfall of Atlantis and we will go the same way if we participate in it again. He warns that there will be a war between human thinking and the machine thinking peoples.

If this kind of development were to take place; a human consciousness put into a machine, then that human being would become unattached to the etheric body and thus become an incomplete human. This is not a way forwards in the cycle of humanity but a way that goes backwards. It is a de-evolvement where one is becoming mechanical rather than developing all of one’s bodies, etheric, astral and physical towards the higher bodies and realms.

This is not something the scientific world considers for few in that sphere of study look at or consider the many bodies of the human and consider the human to be just body and mind, nothing more.

The cycle for humanity can spin either way and we are now living in interesting times where the development of humanity can either turn onwards, forward into the next higher stage, which does not involve merging with electronic machines; or it can spin rapidly backwards and away from true development.

This whole idea of humans becoming cyborgs sometimes seems like a bad sci-fi movie, we have had enough of them on our screens to warn us against this kind of thing. They rarely give positive stories on this subject and it is usually the humans fighting against the rise of the machines or cyborgs, but as the saying goes truth is often stranger than fiction and who knows what ‘truths’ are happening in science labs around the world as they attempt to create the next stage in the human cycle with transhumanism agendas and such like.

I add a video below from The Gospel of Sophia channel where the lecturer explains Steiner’s question-what is it that we want to transition into in the next cycle of human life?

I hope that our cycle goes forward and I end this article with words from the Mahatma Koot Humi who wrote: “Cross over from your land of dream and fiction to our Truth land of stern reality and fact.”
