Welcome To Hermes Magazine

I was lucky enough to work with Ken on various projects over the last few years.  I had known him for longer, having heard him talk at various societies on all types of subjects that dealt with esoteric matters. He understood the mysteries and the magic of this world and how to access this through one’s consciousness.

Many thought of him as a bit of a mystic but Ken regarded himself as a social scientist, which he was because the ken of Ken was vast. He researched themes that appealed to him throughout his life, always intrigued by the ways of humanity and what was beyond the human consciousness, looking at such questions as how deep is man’s, or woman’s, awareness of oneself? Ken knew about the people and history of this subject, he understood the traditions and the rituals and always looked at the psychology, the anthropology and the history of these themes in human society both today and in times past.

He had waiting lists for his courses because so many people would attend his lectures and workshops that he held in London on the ancient mysteries, Hermeticism, folklore…the list goes on because he was so knowledgeable.

One of his heroines was the Christian mystic and theosophist Anna Kingsford. For the England Theosophical Society HQ in London he gave an illuminating talk on her, where he took on her persona and became her. I interviewed him on this very subject too which is available as a podcast ‘Occult Lives-Anna Kingsford with Ken Rees’.

In the last couple of years, we sat and recorded talks together, all now available as podcasts, where Ken passed on his knowledge of what he knew, what he believed in and what he wanted to disseminate to the world.

Some of his last courses were on the ‘Concept of personal myth’, his key concept being that everyone has their own personal myth that they have to come to terms with and work on so that it may become as fully functional as possible, both for them and the wider society.

Ken wrote for Hermes in the last year of his life and I know he had plans for many more articles as well as workshops in London. We had also planned to make more podcasts together and I shall miss meeting up with him and hearing him talk.

Kenneth Rees left to go to the Summerland on 1st October 2020 after a short battle with cancer. I am confident that he is making a full investigation of the other realms.

One of his talks with myself can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxKtCzVBras
